Pat Brown, founder and CEO of Impossible Foods, is featured in a new documentary exploring the transformation of cattle ranches into forests.
The film, titled “WILD HOPE: Mission Impossible,” documents Brown and scientist Michael Eisen as they work to convert a 1,000-acre former cattle ranch in Arkansas into a biodiverse, carbon-capturing forest, aptly named “The Carbon Ranch.”
Brown, a pioneering biochemist and former Stanford professor, shifted his focus to plant-based food production over a decade ago.
In 2011, he founded Impossible Foods with the mission to create sustainable alternatives to meat, beginning with the development of the Impossible Burger.
This initiative aimed to address the significant negative impacts of animal agriculture on climate change, biodiversity and the environment.

A 2021 analysis by BVA Nudge Consulting indicated that Impossible Foods had converted 33 million Americans to plant-based meat, with approximately 72 percent of the brand’s sales replacing traditional meat purchases.
This shift has contributed to a significant reduction in overall meat consumption.
Since October, Impossible Foods has launched several new products, obtained health certification for its “Lite” plant-based beef, and is progressing toward approval in the European Union.
The documentary not only showcases the potential for repurposing agricultural land to combat climate change but also underscores the broader mission of Impossible Foods to provide sustainable food alternatives.
